ABOUT THE UNAA

Welcome, and thank you for your interest in the United Nations Association of Australia (UNAA)

The UNAA works to inform, inspire and engage Australians on the work, goals, and values of the United Nations to create a safer, fairer, more sustainable world.

To implement our Strategic Plan, our teams across Australia, Young Professionals Network and Academic Network run over 150 events a year engaging thousands of people on the work of the UN and the Sustainable Development Goals.  Our national programs and many events help educate Australian citizens and leaders about the UN’s vital work and encourage them to become involved in promoting the UN. We work to support UN Youth to promote greater understanding of the UN within Australian schools, particularly through the conduct of Model UN Conferences. We promote the UN’s critical role in striving to maintain international peace and security, human rights and sustainable development. In particular we focus on promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the issues affecting Australians and Australia, such as climate change, the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, gender equality and refugees.
Now, more than ever, Australia needs the UN … and the UN needs Australia.

We hope you will join us.

Today, ahead of the State Opening of Parliament of the United Kingdom, His Honour, as Patron of the United Nations Association of the Northern Territory, and Ms Ruth Jones were warmly received by Baroness Anelay of St Johns, Chair of the United Nations Association of the United Kingdom, Member of the European Affairs Select Committee and former Chair of the International Relations and Defence Committee, at the House of Lords.

It was a wonderful opportunity for His Honour and the Baroness to discuss the values of the United Nations, our nations shared commitment to effective cooperation and to reflect on the friendship and shared interests of our region and the UK. Lady Anelay expressed great affection for the Territory and shared with the Administrator her fond memories of visiting Darwin.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS by 2030

Our SDGs Forums are made for business and government bodies to connect with the community. We focus on events that share practical insights on the Sustainable Development Goals within the local community.
